Bartomeu is re-elected as barcelonas President

Josep Maria Bartomeu has
been re-elected as Barcelona
president for the next six
years after claiming 54.63% of
the vote in Saturday's election,
with nearest challenger Joan
Laporta getting 33.03%.
Bartomeu, who resigned last month as an interim board
took charge during the election period, will return to office
and begin to implement some of the promises made in his
campaign after fighting off the competition.
The 52-year-old, who took over in 2014 following Sandro
Rosell's resignation, had placed a lot of importance on
keeping the current sponsorship agreement with Qatar
Airways in place, despite being seen as controversial by
many.
Bartomeu was the only one of the final four candidates to
make such a pledge, with the others all in favour of bringing
the deal to a close, despite the €50 million it generates
for the club per season.
Despite overseeing one of the most successful seasons in
the club's history during the 2014-15 campaign, with Luis
Enrique's men winning the treble, Bartomeu has been a
figure of controversy at Camp Nou.
The entrepreneur previously worked alongside Rosell during
a turbulent time for the club, as they were accused of
various indiscretions involving the Neymar transfer, before
Barca were also hit with a transfer ban for breaking
regulations regarding signing youth players.
However, it has been his closeness and working relationship
with Luis Enrique that supposedly encouraged many fans to
vote for Bartomeu, with the likes of Laporta reportedly
looking to sign players that the coach may not have wanted
in the first place.
Barca confirmed that 47,270 votes were cast in total.

Mourinho-chelsea does not need pogba

Jose Mourinho has confirmed
Chelsea are interested in Paul
Pogba , but is happy to use his
current squad rather than
pursue the Juventus star.
The Portuguese manager has
been a long-term admirer of the midfielder, pinpointing the
France international as a key target for Chelsea over a year
ago, but faces competition for his signature from a number
of Europe's top sides.
Mourinho, who has added just loanee Radamel Falcao and
goalkeeper Asmir Begovic to his squad so far this summer,
feels Pogba would boost any team, but remains confident in
the collective strength of his squad.
"Pogba is not to put pressure on people," Mourinho says.
"Pogba is one of the top players in the world. Pogba goes to
any team and improves that team automatically. If he stays
at Juventus, Juventus will be very strong again. If he goes
somewhere else he will improve immediately a team. This is
not our case.
"We are changing [Petr] Cech for Begovic, we are changing
Didier [Drogba] for Falcao and we are changing kids by
other kids. I think everybody has an interest in Pogba. But
there are things you can do and things you cannot do. I love
the Eiffel Tower but I can't have the Eiffel Tower in my
garden. I can't even have the Eiffel Tower of Las Vegas."
Falcao was viewed as a surprise addition by some following
the striker's poor form for Manchester United last term, but
Mourinho feels the Colombian's fitness woes are behind
him heading into the new season.
"When a player is injured or has bad consequences of a big
injury there is sometimes nothing you can do. We made
ourselves sure that was not the case with Falcao because if
that was the case he would not be with us.
"He didn't perform [at United] for many reasons. Some
players don't perform with me, some players don't perform
with Chelsea, they go to other clubs and they perform. This
can happen. So we know that Falcao is in good conditions
related to the surgery he had before he went to Man United.
"We believe that he can with us and to replace a big player
like Didier we wanted to go with another big player with
experience, ready, so these three strikers for us – Falcao,
Rémy and Diego. We are very happy."

My 24-hour SSS ordeal was a witch hunt- Sambo Dasuki

The former National Security Adviser, Mr. Sambo Dasuki,
yesterday raised an alarm over what he saw as a plot by the
State Security Service (SSS) to implicate him in alleged
security breaches.
He said Nigerians should know that the invasion of his
house by the SSS was a sheer witch-hunt. He said it was
sad that the operatives of the security agency broke into his
ailing father’s house in Sokoto and broke his safe.
Dasuki, who spoke exclusively with the Nation
correspondent on the phone yesterday, said he did not
deserve such treatment because as the National Security
Adviser he did not maltreat any Nigerian.
He said he was subjected to a 12-hour ordeal from 6pm on
Thursday till 6am on Friday.
He said:
“The SSS operatives came in two trucks with a
search warrant from a Magistrate Court. The
warrant gave them the power to search for ‘illegal
weapons and any incriminating item.’ You can
imagine what that is supposed to mean.
“I left office on Tuesday and they got the warrant on
Wednesday and executed it by 6pm on Thursday.
“From 6pm on Thursday, throughout the night till
about 6am this morning (Friday), they were
searching my house looking for incriminating items.
“They restricted my movement. I cannot go out and
no one can visit me. All those who attempted to see
me were stopped from doing so.
“In fact, my son was blocked from entering my
residence. My two cooks, who used to come from
their homes to prepare my meals, were also
disallowed from leaving my house.
“The only person allowed was the man who feeds
my dogs. And he only related with the dogs.
“By Friday morning, they packed away all the nine
cars in my residence. I could not go out to perform
the Eid-el-Fitr prayer because of the restriction.
Even when I sought permission to go to Eid Praying Ground,
they promised to provide a vehicle but they never did.”
He added:
“This is just a witch-hunt; they are desperately
looking for something to implicate me.
“They went to my father’s house including breaking
into the ceiling to look for incriminating documents.
They broke a safe in my father’s house.
“Also, my sister kept a 20-year old box in my
father’s house, they also forced it open. What has
my father got to do with this?
“And the old man is in hospital in London. He was
shocked to hear that they broke into his house. The
good thing is that they did not find anything.
“They brought the photocopy of a 2007 draft by my
brother, Ahmed, and asked me to comment on it.
Was I in office in 2007 as NSA? You can see the
extent to which they are ready to go to implicate
me,” he said.
The State Security operatives yesterday also confiscated
his international passport and $40,000 cash found in his
house.
They retrieved 3 rifles which were being used by members
of the protective team while in office.
The disengagement of the Protective team was yet to be
completed yesterday but the SSS asked him to explain how
he came about the rifles.
However, at about 6 pm yesterday, SSS operatives were
withdrawn from his residence.
Dasuki’s movement remains however restricted to
within the country as his traveling documents are now with
the SSS.
According to findings, the SSS team obtained statement
from him from about 1 hour.
A source said:
“They seized the ex-NSA passport and raised issues
on how he came about the $40,000 in his house.
They went to the extent of asking him to give the
details of how he came about the cash.
“On the rifles, they repeatedly questioned him on
what he was doing with them. He took time to
explain that they belong to members of the
Protective Team guarding him. They became
excited as if they had found an evidence against
him.
“I think by the time the case gets to a court,
Nigerians will know the truth or otherwise of their
findings.
In regards to the allegations against him, about the
purchase of arms, funds for counter-insurgency and the
seized $15million in South Africa , Dasuki said:
“I read some of these allegations in The Nation but
nobody has asked me some of these things they are
saying. I was not even in charge of some of these
things. How do I account for all?
“And if you want me to respond to these issues, you
have to give me access to relevant documents. You
do not need to restrict my movement. You can see
that they are just out to set me up. Even if they find
a knife in my house, they will say it is
incriminating.”
“There are some who should account 10 times for
some of these allegations they are raising but they
are walking about freely, ” he added.
Dasuki, who sounded confident on the phone, said as a
retired senior military officer and ex-NSA, he ought to be
better treated.
“Everybody should know what is happening. They
sent some low-level officers, looking for something
to implicate me.
“It is just a witch-hunt. If you want me to make
clarifications on any issue, in the spirit of
democracy and the rule of Law, have the courtesy to
invite me and as a gentleman, I will honour the
invitation. Sending two trucks to lay siege on my
house and restrict my movement is just abysmal.
“For a man who left office on Tuesday, where will I
run to? I have nothing to fear.”
The former NSA said he was unfairly treated by the SSS
because when he was in charge of the nation’s security, he
was “cautious, careful and fair" in his approach.
He added:
“I was fair to all as NSA. Even when I had security
cause to act on some issues, inflammatory
comments and actions against the government of
the day by those in the opposition, I exercised
restraint. I did not restrict anyone’s movement, I
never asked security agents to occupy anybody’s
house.
“But that is the new change we have, this is our own
definition of democracy. All I know is that everything
has a beginning and an end in a democracy. I gave
my best for this transition, which led to the victory
of the opposition over the ruling party.

In connection with the attack that occur in lekki by some robbers.suspect sue nigerian police by #1m s

One of the four suspects paraded by the
police in connection with the March 12,
2015 robbery of the Lekki branch of First
City Monument Bank, Ebi Tosan, has sued
the police.
He is seeking N1m as damages.
The 20-year-old, who was arrested on
April 5, 2015, claimed that it was unlawful
for the police to continue to keep him in
detention without admitting him to bail.
Tosan, who was paraded by the police
along with three others – Duke Odogbo, 38;
Lawrence Kingsley, 31; and Ekelemo Kuete,
30 – is seeking an order directing the
police to immediately release him on bail.
The suspect’s lawyer, Chief S.W. Baidi,
argued that the suspect’s continued
detention without bail was an
“infringement and curtailment of the
applicant’s constitutional right to personal
liberty, freedom of movement and
presumption of innocence.”
Tosan is seeking a declaration that his
arrest, torture and continued detention by
the State Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja,
without bail was a violation of his human
rights, preserved by sections 34(1)(a), 35(1)
(4) and Section 41 of the 1999 constitution.
In a 26-paragraph affidavit filed in support
of the originating summons, one Tamuno
Amos, who described himself as the
suspect’s uncle, said that his nephew’s
continued detention by the police was a
deliberate act to “extract a confessional
statement from him on the alleged
offence.”
Amos, who said he had not been allowed to
see his nephew since his arrest, claimed
that “the applicant is suffering on daily
basis without access to food, bath and
other conveniences and he may die in
custody if not granted bail.”
The suspect had on July 9 secured an order
of Justice Lateefa Okunnu of a Lagos State
High Court in Ikeja, directing the police to
produce him in court on July 16.
On Thursday, however, when the matter
came up, the police did not bring the
suspect to court and his originating
summons slated for hearing could not be
heard.
Okunnu, while adjourning hearing of the
application till October 22, however,
ordered that the Lagos State Attorney
General should be joined as a respondent.
She added that if there was any urgency,
the applicant could appear before October
22 before another judge who would be
sitting during the court’s annual vacation,
which begins next week.
The original respondents in the suit are the
Lagos State Commissioner of Police and the
Head of SARS, Ikeja, Abba Kyari.
In the said robbery on Admiralty Way,
Lekki, Lagos, a gang of armed robbers,
which Tosan and others allegedly belonged
to, reportedly stormed FCMB in the
afternoon of March 12, wearing military
uniform and engaged the police in a gun
battle before carting away about N15m
from the bank.
About five persons, including three
policemen and a fish hawker, were
reportedly killed while several others
sustained injuries during the shooting
spree said to have lasted about 30 minutes.

'Davido was like promoting yam flour'

Last week, National Drug Law
Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) was reported
to be investigating 22-year old HKN Boss
Davido Adeleke for allegedly promoting
hard drugs in his video featuring Meek
Mill ‘Fans Mi’.
Davido’s manager, Kamal Ajiboye, has come
out to talk on the viral drug trafficking
allegations on OBO.
Kamal claimed the idea of what looks like
hard drugs is just to promote yam flour
business as a source of making funds
rather than venturing into hard drugs biz.
Read his explanation below.
‘The story is basically to dissuade people
from trafficking in hard drugs. The
purpose of the video is to let the audience
know that since some people are making
money from hard drugs, they can also
make a lot of money by selling yam flour.
The yam flour was well projected in the
video.
It was finally prepared as a meal of
pounded yam to be eaten with vegetable
soup in one of the scenes in the same
video,’
He concluded that bad belle’s just want to
create an unnecessary controversy around
the video and Davido’s personality and his
just amazed why anyone would want to
tarnish Davido’s name in relation to hard
drugs.
